Reading
Something that I seem to be doing every single day of my life. Being a doctoral student, I have to read a ton of papers/articles and that keeps me occupied. And since I am used to reading on the computer, I get all my news (from technology and science to politics and entertainment) online, thanks to RSS feeds. That just provides me the opportunity to read more. I have recently decided to read at least one book a month to catch up on an activity that gets little time nowadays. So, you could possibly see me carrying a book and reading it on the bus or while eating lunch or whenever i get the chance to.
Photography and Traveling
I enjoy traveling. I like being in new places, enjoying the scenic beauty and architectural specimens (though I am not too well-versed with the subject). It provides a welcome break from a routine, mundane existence.
Traveling and photography go hand in hand. It has to be said that I like taking pictures. Thanks to the advent of digital cameras, I can click away to my heart's content and I often click more than I need to. I have always wanted to spend time to learn photography but haven't done so yet. I hope to do that sometime soon...
Here are some selected pictures from my various trips:
coming soon...
Music
Music keeps me going. I am one of those who wants to listen to music all the time.. in the car, in the shower, while working, while sleeping. And I love singing along. I am mostly into Indian film music (Telugu, Hindi, Tamil) but I'll listen to anything that I find interesting.
Movies
I am a big movie buff. I watch all sorts of films and wish that I would make a good one someday... after I retire maybe :)
Meaningful cinema is definitely my cup of tea but i don't look down upon mindless entertainers either.
A random selection of my favorites:
Kshana Kshanam, City of God (Cidade De Deus), 12 Angry Men, Anand (Hindi), Good Will Hunting, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, Hero (Ying Xiong), Kill Bill, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Sagara Sangamam, Swades, Anbe Sivam
Food
I am a food lover. I like to experiment whenever I go out. Indian food is obviously my favorite.. anything from south Indian to north Indian to Goan and the unbeatable Indian Chinese. That is followed by Asian, Mexican and Cajun cuisines (in no particular order).
For someone who enjoys food, I am a picky eater. My dislike for anything that is more than moderately sweet (unless its got chocolate in it!) surprises many. I am not big on fruits either. Give me something spicy and you can be sure I will at least give it a try.
Sports
I am not much of a sports fan(atic). Like most Indians, I enjoy watching and playing Cricket but I am not a passionate fan. I watch Tennis too though it has been a long while since I've played Tennis (or Cricket for that matter). Table Tennis (or Ping Pong, if you will) is something that I enjoy playing. I wouldn't mind a game of bowling or pool. Board games are good too. Scrabble, Boggle, Pictionary...
